Community Youth Mentoring has been serving children in Erie County since 1968. We have provided mentors for children in need of positive role models for 56 years in the community. It might have been under the agency name of V.I.A. Clubs of Erie County (Volunteers in Action), Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Community Youth Mentoring, but the mission of providing mentors for at-risk children has always remained our primary goal.

One in three children in our community do not have enough positive adults in their lives. Community Youth Mentoring’s One-to-One Mentoring (Traditional Mentoring) and our School Buddies program focuses on intervention, social and emotional support, confidence, and building improved relationships in our community’s youth. The results not only benefit the youth and their families but impact our entire community.

Community Youth Mentoring is a unique program in Erie County, and the only program within our county that provides caring adult volunteers as Mentors for Erie County Children in need of mentorship. The children that we enroll in our Traditional One-to-One Mentoring Program serve children ages 5 through 18 (until they age out). We also host School Buddies, which is a site based mentoring program with the Erie County Schools. We match high school mentors (Big Buddies) with elementary children (Little Buddies) grades 1 through 3, intermediate children grade 4 through 5, and junior high grades 6 through 8 that need a peer leader and mentor. Little Buddies are referred by the teachers for our program, due to teachers being the primary support person each day for these children and knowing what their needs are.

Our mission is to be committed to creating positive relationships in the lives of children and instilling hope into their futures and helping make “All Kids’ Count.”
