About the Event

THIS FUNDRAISER BENEFITS OUR LOCAL CHILDREN-IN-NEED. This year’s Benefit Bowling Blast coincides with the exact date of 1969’s WOODSTOCK.  50 YEARS LATER!  What a great excuse to dress up like HIPPIES and raise some funds for Lake County’s disadvantaged children.  The Buns Care Charity and the Buns Care Sisterhood Chapter are dedicated to having a positive impact on the lives of these kids. This event is a fun way for YOU to help!

SIGN UP. DRESS UP. SHOW UP. HAVE A BLAST!

GOOD BOWLERS. LOUSY BOWLERS. EVEN NON-BOWLERS.  Put together a team of 4, 5, or 6. Not enough people for a full team? Not a problem.  Sign up 2 or 3 or just sign up as an individual and we will pull it all together.

The registration fee is only $24 per person.  Each bowler gets:

  • 3 hours of bowling and shoe rental
  • Food, soft drinks, coffee, and dessert
  • To be assured of receiving a far-out, tie-dyed event t-shirt, register by JULY 31
  • Professional team and individual photos
  • A chance to win prizes and participate in drawings

Our goal is to raise $16,000 this year thru event sponsorships and individual donations. Bowlers can help us meet that goal by asking friends to donate just a few dollars each in support of you or your team.  Easy to do here, via PayPal or credit card. All funds raised will remain in our community.

Woodstock’s 50th Anniversary

Woodstock

The Event Day coincides with the 50th anniversary of one of the most important events in music history: WOODSTOCK, August 15, 16 and 17, 1969! Many consider Woodstock as the core of the counterculture generation. The festival drew 400,000 people to Max Yasgur’s New York farm for 3 days of peace, love and music, performed by 32 acts, including Santana, Grateful Dead, Credence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Ravi Shankar, The Who, Jimi Hendrix and Crosby Stills Nash & Young.

Come dressed like a Hippie (optional)

What the Charity Does

Annual Kids Shoe Drive

Buns Care Charity 2018 Shoe DriveOver the last 3 years, the Buns Care Charity has been able to provide over 1200 pair of new shoes to some of Lake County’s underprivileged children. In 2016 we collected and distributed 179 pair. In 2017, 440 pair.  Then last December  we had an amazing 620 pair! We accomplish this by setting up 0more than 20 business collection points throughout the county, making it convenient for anyone to drop off a pair or two.  The Kids Shoe Drive runs for a week each year, beginning on #GivingTuesday, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

Education Assistance

Buns Care Charity Sisterhood Teaching KitFREE PreK-at-HOME PROGRAM
The Charity’s Sisterhood Chapter works at raising awareness to the importance of preschool education. The ladies of the Sisterhood help families with out the means to afford traditional preschool be able to give their kids a chance to excel upon entering Kindergarten.  They provide some basic guidance and a professional teaching kit at no charge.  The kits are full of hands-on exercises and require only 15-20 minutes per day of dedicated interaction between a child and parent or caregiver.  CLICK HERE to learn more.

Buns Care - ScholarshipSCHOLARSHIPS.  Every year the Charity gives out one or two modest scholarships to deserving local seniors.  At the time of this writing we are planning on one scholarship going to a Lake Central senior and another to a Calumet High School senior.

ART SUPPLIES.  Last fall a Lake County school reached out to us.  The had a new art teacher, a classroom, but there were zero dollars in the budget for art supplies.  They had to start the school year using just newspapers and makers.  The Buns Care was able to provide enough supplies to get them thru the entire year.

Growing and on the Move

Buns Care Charity Benefit Bowling BlastThis year we found it necessary to move to a larger facility.  We outgrew our small Schererville office a long time ago.  In 2017 the interest in our free Prek-at-Home program grew rapidly.  In early 2018 we began the process of expanding our Sisterhood Chapter so we could handle the demand.  In May of 2018 we moved into our new, 500 square foot storefront headquarters.  You can find us now at 825 W. 45th Street in Griffith, located between Clear Ear Hearing Aids and Ron Pierce State Farm.
