A few years ago, I volunteered to organize a bowl-a-thon for Mychal's Learning Place. It seemed easy enough - sign up sponsors, bowlers and create teams. But as I was handed information - team names and potential sponsors mostly written on little pieces of scrap paper and scribbled on the back of an envelope - I realized the need to organize all of this information into a concise form to maximize our ability to get participants and donations. Given my background in website development, I thought what better place to centralize this information than online where organizers, sponsors and bowlers could all have immediate access to the event information... Less than 30 days later Bowlathon.net was launched and successfully used for Mychal’s 5th Annual Bowl-a-thon! Bowlathon.net provides fundraising organizers with an online tool where they can inform potential participants and sponsors about their event, register teams and bowlers, track the event status, and collect donations and pledges. Creating the Bowlathon.net site has been a rewarding personal project that has allowed me to interact with many different types of organizations and their volunteers across the country.
