About Crisis Connection
Crisis Connection is a Twin Cities-based nonprofit specializing in telephone counseling, information and referral. Hundreds of people turn to Crisis Connection each day for services that are free, confidential, and available to all Minnesotans 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Out of every dollar Crisis Connection receives, eighty-nine cents goes into direct service.
 Crisis Connection’s services are unique in two ways. First, we are the only service in Minnesota that can immediately assess the needs of a caller in crisis, de-escalate the matter so it is no longer an immediate crisis, and then help the caller decide what to do the next hour and the next day to get things going in a better direction.
Second, our services are confidential and anonymous. Not only can callers be assured that their most private information will not be shared with anyone, but for many, the anonymity gives them freedom to discuss matters they otherwise would not. This can be an important first step toward lasting solutions.
About four times a week, on the average, Crisis Connection becomes involved in true, life-and-death emergencies – callers who are voicing an intention to harm themselves or others. But most of the 65,000 calls fielded each year by Crisis Connection do not involve such threats of imminent death. Most of the calls involve problems, issues, or anxieties that can be eased just by having an empathetic and knowledgeable counselor on the other end of the telephone, every hour of every day.
Crisis Connection provides telephone counseling statewide using rigorously trained staff and volunteers. Our training exceeds the standards set by the American Association of Suicidology, a national regulating body for crisis lines with voluntary participation. Crisis Connection also provides professional training and community education services. |
